Our certificates

We believe it is very important for companies that claim to produce organic cosmetics to have a form of independent certification to support these claims. Independent certification guarantees consumers that products are actually made with many organic ingredients and are free from a wide range of synthetic ingredients that should not be used in certified organic cosmetics. In 1999, Charlotte was invited to sit a committee of the soil association to design the first standards for organic beauty. Charlotte, and later Green People's Cosmetic Scientist Ian Taylor, played a major role in establishing natural and organic cosmetic regulations.

Green People was one of the first cosmetic products companies to be certified organic by the Soil Association , just after their Cosmetic Standard was launched in 2002, followed by Organic Food Federation in 2003. We eventually achieved certification with EcoCert in 2009, making us the only cosmetics company to be independently certified by three different certification bodies.

All three of these certification bodies have very strict rules for the nature and type of ingredients that can be used. Full formulation details must be submitted for approval and annual inspections are carried out to control manufacturing and packaging activities. Full traceability of every organic ingredient is an integral part of the certification process, which makes it possible to trace raw materials back to the farmer and the piece of land where the crop from which that ingredient originated was produced.

At the time of writing, Green People has 140 products of which almost 90% are certified by one or more of the aforementioned certification bodies.










In addition to our organic certifications, we are also proud to have obtained ethical accreditation over the last 13 years in a row awarded by the Ethical Company Organization and published in the Good Shopping Guide . Praised for our dedication to the use of organic, sustainable ingredients that are cruel and freely traded, The Ethical Company Organization gave Green People an excellent ECI (Ethical Company Index) of 92.

 




Green People is also certified by PETA as a brand without cruelty. We are proud to be part of their Beauty Without Bunnies program and declare that we never test any product or ingredient on animals. We have always been determined to never use ingredients that are made by manufacturers who have animal tests performed and who do not export to China, for which imported cosmetics must be legally tested on animals.
